Florida to take spotlight during 2002 Sunbelt Expo
Southeast Farm Press,  Sept 4, 2002

The Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition is shining the spotlight on Florida in 2002, welcoming Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson as the keynote speaker for the annual noon luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

"Florida is very honored to be this year's spotlight state," Bronson said. "In a very real sense, we are the nation's fruit and vegetable garden, producing the best citrus in the world and leading our nation in the production of countless crops including oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, fresh tomatoes, snap beans, sweet corn, cucumbers, bell peppers, and sugarcane."

The Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services will present various interactive activities at the Sunbelt Expo, to be held Oct. 15-17, 2002, in Moultrie, Ga.

David Froehlich Jr. of A1A Citrus Racing, Inc, is the driver for three "Fresh from Florida" stock cars, participating in the Super Late Series during the 2002 racing season. Froehlich, who will be making a personal appearance at the Expo, is also a full-time citrus nurseryman in a family-owned business in Loxahatchee, Fla.

A "Fresh from Florida" Culinary Theater will showcase Florida foods in a cooking demonstration. Florida has hundreds of delicious agriculture products that are enjoyed countless ways. Experience true Florida cuisine via interactive food prep demos with favorite foods. See new ideas, sample easy recipes, and make sure to take home colorful, informative recipe brochures.

The "Florida Forests Forever" show van will allow visitors to experience interactive CD-ROM programs about managing Florida forests - balancing environmental and recreational needs with timber production. The state's "Turn Pro" mobile exhibit will share information on the environmentally-clean, reliable, and efficient nature of propane gas - featuring operating propane appliances, including a fireplace, generator, grill, and stove.

The Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, the Florida Farm Bureau, and the Institute of Food & Agriculture Sciences will highlight the diversity of Florida agriculture in a 40' ?80' tent at this year's Expo. Featured inside the tent will be the "Fresh from Florida" products - such as peanuts, honey, poultry, seafood, strawberries, and citrus.
